About Ocean Conservation Alliance
Dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems since 2005
Our Mission
Ocean Conservation Alliance exists to protect and restore the worlds ocean ecosystems through scientific research, community engagement, and advocacy. We believe that healthy oceans are essential for life on Earth and that everyone has a role to play in their preservation.
Our Story
Founded in 2005 by marine biologist Dr. Sarah Mitchell, Ocean Conservation Alliance began as a small research initiative studying coral reef degradation in the Caribbean. What started as a team of five passionate scientists has grown into a global organization with over 200 staff members and 50,000 volunteers worldwide.
Our journey has taken us from the Great Barrier Reef to the coasts of West Africa, from the kelp forests of California to the mangroves of Southeast Asia. Along the way, weve learned that lasting ocean conservation requires not just scientific expertise, but also community partnership and policy advocacy.
Our Values
- Science-Based Action: Every initiative we undertake is grounded in rigorous research and proven methodologies.
- Community Partnership: We work alongside local communities, respecting traditional knowledge and empowering local stewardship.
- Transparency: We are accountable to our donors, partners, and the communities we serve.
- Innovation: We embrace new technologies and approaches to maximize our conservation impact.
- Hope: We believe that with collective action, we can reverse the damage and create thriving ocean ecosystems.
